Why we built it
Every state writes its own lien law: its own notices, its own deadlines, its own rules for who counts as a subcontractor and when a clock starts. A contractor working in three states is working under three different statutes, and missing one step usually means losing the lien.

LienShield is a product of Obsidian Clad Labs LLC, a husband-and-wife company in Tennessee with no outside investors. We answer our own support email.
How the lien-law data is kept honest
- Every jurisdiction was researched from the statute itself in September 2026 and independently cross-checked, and every deadline carries a citation to the section it comes from.
- Where a rule could not be confirmed, the data says so, and where two readings are possible the deadline engine uses the earlier date.
- The data has not yet been reviewed by a licensed attorney, and every guide says so.
- We do not support a jurisdiction we cannot serve properly: American Samoa, Hawaii, Louisiana, Maryland, New Hampshire, Northern Mariana Islands and Puerto Rico are not supported, and their guides explain why.
