Terms of Service

1. Service Description

LienShield is a document preparation and deadline tracking service for mechanics lien filings. We fill forms from the project information you provide, check them for missing information, calculate deadlines and send reminders, and give step-by-step filing guidance for 49 of the 56 US lien jurisdictions — 46 states plus the District of Columbia, Guam, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. American Samoa, Hawaii, Louisiana, Maryland, New Hampshire, the Northern Mariana Islands and Puerto Rico are not supported.

Two features process content you submit with our AI provider, Anthropic, on United States infrastructure only: contract auto-fill, which runs when you upload a contract, and an automatic review of each document you generate. Your content is never used to train AI models. By uploading a contract or generating a document you authorize that transmission. Section 3 of our Privacy Policy describes exactly what is sent.

Important: LienShield is NOT a law firm and does NOT provide legal advice. Our service generates documents based on the information you provide. We recommend consulting with a licensed attorney for legal guidance specific to your situation.

2. User Responsibilities

You are responsible for:

Providing accurate and complete project information
Reviewing all generated documents before filing
Filing documents with the appropriate government offices
Meeting all legal deadlines (while we track them, you are ultimately responsible)
Complying with all applicable laws in your jurisdiction

3. Subscription Plans

LienShield is sold per person, never per company. A plan covers one person. Deadline reminder emails and scheduled reports go to the person whose own plan includes them, so if your office manager is on Premium, that does not put the crew on Premium. Anyone who wants LienShield emailing them about a deadline needs their own paid plan. Joining a team is free, does not change what you pay, and never moves your subscription; the Free plan includes 3 documents per month. A document is any notice, lien, waiver, demand letter, bond claim or other filing LienShield prepares for you. It counts once, when it is created. Editing a draft, downloading the PDF again, or marking it sent or filed does not count again.

The plans and their prices. Free is $0. Pro is $19 per person per month, or $180 per person per year paid upfront; Premium is $39 per person per month, or $390 per person per year paid upfront. These are the prices in force for these Terms, and they are the same ones shown on our pricing page, which lists what each plan includes. Prices are in US dollars and exclude any tax we are required to collect. If we change a price, the new price applies to your next renewal and we tell you before it is charged.

Changing and canceling. You can change or cancel your plan yourself on the Billing page in your dashboard. Canceling stops the next payment: your paid features continue until the end of the period you have already paid for, and nothing on your account is deleted. If a payment fails, you keep your plan for 14 days while the card is retried; after that you are limited to the Free plan's features until the payment succeeds or you cancel. Cancelling, lapsing or downgrading never removes you or anyone else from a team, and never affects what a teammate pays or receives.

Plans we no longer sell. If you are on a plan that has been withdrawn, or your organization holds one we granted before September 22, 2026, it keeps that plan's price and limits until you choose a different one.

Refunds. We will refund your most recent payment if you ask within 14 days of that payment and no filings have been generated on the account in that billing period. Email support@lienshield.app to request one — refunds are processed by hand, not from a button in the app. This is the same policy stated on our pricing page; if the two ever disagree, this section governs.

4. Limitation of Liability

LienShield provides document preparation tools on an "as-is" basis. We do not guarantee that any filing will be accepted by a government office, that any lien will be enforceable, or that any payment will be recovered. Our maximum liability is limited to the amount you paid for the service in the 12 months preceding the claim.

5. Accuracy Disclaimer

While we strive to keep our state law database current, laws change frequently. We make reasonable efforts to update our systems but cannot guarantee that all information is current at all times. Always verify critical deadlines and requirements with your local county recorder or a licensed attorney.

6. Termination

We may terminate or suspend your account for violation of these terms.

To close your account and have its data deleted, email support@lienshield.app from the address on the account. There is no self-serve account-deletion control in the product today; requests are handled by a person, and our target is to complete deletion within 30 days of confirming the request. We may retain billing records we are required to keep for tax and accounting purposes, and we cannot retract a lien or notice already recorded with a county office, because that is a public record outside our control. You can export your projects, filings, deadlines and evidence to CSV or Excel from the dashboard before you ask us to delete the account.

7. Governing Law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Tennessee, USA. Any disputes shall be resolved in the courts of Tennessee.
